How to get to Step Ahead
Currently bus services to both West Step Ahead (6 Brake St) and Step Ahead at 167 Stanmore Road are as follows:
West
The Orbiter bus stops on Waimairi Road, opposite the Bush Inn Centre. Other bus routes that pass close enough to walk to 6 Brake St are No. 81 (Lincoln), No. 83 (Hei Hei), No. 84 (Russley) and No. 88 (Rolleston).
167 Stanmore Road
- As of Thursday 16th June the Orbiter bus is detouring between The Palms and Eastgate via North Parade, North Avon Rd and Stanmore Road.
- From the Central Station (46-50 Lichfield Street) No. 60 (Parklands) travels up Stanmore Road.
- No. 5 (Hornby/South Shore) crosses Stanmore Road on Cashel Street
- No. 3 (Ferrymead) comes as close as Ferry Road
- No. 40 (Wainoni) crosses Stanmore Road at St. Asaph Street.
- No. 21 (Ilam/Ferrymead) crosses Stanmore Road at Gloucester Street.

To enhance the well being of people who experience serious mental illness by providing community based services that support them in their own recovery.
Our Aims and Objectives
- To provide social and pre-vocational rehabilitation for people who experience mental illness by promoting a progression away from illness and institutional care or dependency towards a state of good health, wellness and a level of independence in the community.
- To offer Members an environment within which they can learn to live well in the community and to experience and practice life skills.
- To provide Members with the opportunity to meet people, make friends and have fun.
- To provide the opportunity for the development of work skills and work habits through involvement in activities and in the running of Step Ahead.
- To offer a source of information on community resources through staff and Members themselves.
- To encourage and support Members to make their own decisions and to accept responsibility for the outcome.
- To maintain a partnership between Members, Staff and Management at Step Ahead as such that all are involved in the decision making processes and actions taken.
- To uphold the spirit of the Treaty of Waitangi and New Zealand's multi-cultural heritage.
