Quail Island Day Trip - Friday 10th February

Stanmore and West members will visit Quail Island on Friday the 10th of February, leaving both bases at 9.30am. The ferry leaves Lyttelton wharf at 10.20am. Cost $15.

The main beach on the island is a great swimming spot and it is an easy to moderate, interesting walk around the whole island. Sights include the “ships graveyard” which contains ship wrecks of at least 14 ships. The island was a leprosy colony in its early days and is steeped in history.

The return ferry leaves the island at 3.30pm. We will be back to West and Stanmore Road about 4.30pm. Bring your lunch, sunblock & hat and a water bottle. There are no shops on the island. See you there.

We are pleased to welcome two new tutors to the West programme:

Art with Ross

Ross is an experienced artist who has also been involved in the mental health sector in a support role. He is looking forward to working with you to have fun and to explore your artistic interests.

Sewing with Petra

Petra has assisted with sewing at Stanmore for a while now and some of you will know her very friendly and patient approach, not to mention skill and knowledge with fabric and needle.

Both Ross and Petra will discuss what creations you would like to work on plus explore different projects and materials available.

City To Surf

The City to Surf is back on, Sunday 25th March.

Last year was the first time in the walk's 38 year history that it had to be cancelled. It is very exciting that it has returned in 2012 with a new route, yet to be advised.

“This is a fun event for the young and old, the serious and not so serious. It is all about participation, team building, reaching personal goals and having fun.”

Plan to join the walking groups at both West and Stanmore in preparation for joining us. Talk to Di for more details.
